New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed today as a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to ensure swift justice for every Indian while breaking free from colonial-era mindsets. He will join Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday in Chandigarh to witness the practical application of three groundbreaking criminal laws, which are reshaping India’s criminal justice system.
Ahead of the event, PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted: “A special day in our efforts to ensure speedy justice for every Indian and, at the same time, break free from colonial mindsets. At 12 noon today, will join the programme in Chandigarh to mark the successful implementation of the three new criminal laws, namely the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.”
He further added, “It’s a matter of immense joy that these laws are coming into being at a time when we mark 75 years of our Constitution being adopted by the Constituent Assembly.”
In Chandigarh, a live demonstration will showcase how digital platforms like e-Sakshya, Nyay Setu, Nyay Shruti, and e-Summons have streamlined law enforcement, judicial procedures, and evidence management. The demonstration will simulate a crime scene investigation to highlight the new systems’ efficiency.
These digital applications have been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in collaboration with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ guidance. The new systems aim to improve transparency, reduce delays, and enhance the overall criminal justice process.
PM Modi will also dedicate the successful implementation of the three transformative criminal laws at a special event at Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Chandigarh. The event is titled “Secure Society, Developed India – From Punishment to Justice.”
The conceptualisation of these laws reflects PM Modi’s vision to replace colonial-era laws that remained in place after Independence and reform the judicial system by focusing more on justice than on mere punishment. The new laws, which came into effect nationwide on July 1, aim to make the legal system more transparent, efficient, and responsive to the challenges of modern society.
These landmark reforms introduce comprehensive changes to address contemporary issues like cybercrime, organized crime, and to ensure justice for victims of various offenses.
In anticipation of the Prime Minister’s visit, robust security arrangements have been put in place in Chandigarh.
This event is a key step towards modernising India’s criminal justice system and ensuring that it meets the needs of a rapidly evolving society.
