Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced on Friday that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Gopal Joshi, the brother of Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi, in connection with a cheating case related to the recent Lok Sabha elections.
During a press briefing, Parameshwara emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and confirmed that the police have initiated a search for Gopal Joshi. He noted that two to three individuals linked to the case have already been apprehended. “Gopal Joshi has not yet been caught, but we will proceed with action as per the law,” he stated.
When questioned about the potential involvement of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, the Home Minister mentioned that it is premature to draw conclusions. “After interrogating the arrested individuals and recording their statements, further details will emerge. We must refrain from speculation until the investigation is complete,” he added.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda provided additional context, explaining that the case stems from a woman’s complaint alleging she was defrauded by individuals promising her a ticket for the Vijayapura Lok Sabha seat in the recent elections. He confirmed that a case of cheating and atrocity has been registered at the Basaveshwaranagar police station, and an investigation is ongoing. However, he noted that specific details cannot be released at this time.
Regarding the involvement of Gopal Joshi and other accused individuals, Commissioner Dayananda reiterated that the police’s current focus is on the investigation and that further information will be disclosed as the case develops.
