Bijapur, Chhattisgarh – A deadly attack by Naxalites Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh when they blew up a vehicle carrying District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel on Monday afternoon. The incident, confirmed by Bastar IG Sundarraj P, occurred near Ambeli village under the Kutru police station area as the security personnel were returning from an anti-Naxal operation.
The attack marks one of the largest assaults on security forces in the region in the past two years. According to police sources, the blast took place around 2:15 PM when Naxalites detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed along the Kutru road. The security forces were part of a joint operation, and the vehicle struck the IED while passing through Ambeli Nala.
“This attack is the biggest on security personnel in the last two years,” said a police officer familiar with the situation. In April 2023, Naxalites had previously targeted a convoy in Dantewada, killing ten policemen and a civilian driver in a similar IED blast.
Bastar IG Sundarraj P provided further details about the attack, emphasizing that the security team had been conducting a search operation before the ambush. The Naxalites, in a desperate and cowardly act, planted the IED and triggered it as the convoy passed through the area.
In the aftermath of the explosion, a backup team has been dispatched to the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance. The full extent of the casualties is yet to be confirmed as the investigation continues.
Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao expressed his condolences and condemned the attack. Speaking to ANI, he stated, “This is a cowardly action. As our Jawans continue their fight to eliminate Naxals, this attack is born out of desperation and disappointment. The sacrifice of these brave Jawans will not go in vain.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his grief, vowing to eliminate Naxalites from the country by March 2026. He assured that the sacrifices of the soldiers who lost their lives in the attack would not be forgotten, underscoring the government’s commitment to fighting extremism.
The attack has once again highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by Naxalites in the Bastar region, and security forces remain on high alert as they continue their operations to bring peace and stability to the area.
