Mild Earthquakes Shake Prakasam District for Third Consecutive Day, Triggering Panic

Mundlamuru, Andhra Pradesh – Mild earthquakes continued to rock Prakasam district for the third consecutive day on Monday, leaving residents of Mundlamuru and nearby villages in a state of panic. Tremors, which first began on Saturday, have been felt across several villages, including Singanapalem, Shankarapuram, and Marella, sparking widespread concern about the potential for stronger seismic activity.

Although the earthquakes have been of low magnitude, their persistent occurrence has raised alarms among the local population, with many fearing that stronger aftershocks or even a larger earthquake could follow. The frequency of the tremors has led to heightened anxiety in the affected areas.

“We are scared to stay indoors as the tremors keep happening,” said a resident from Singanapalem, explaining that many villagers have started sleeping outside their homes to avoid the risk of structural damage. The ongoing seismic activity has prompted several residents to take precautionary measures, with some even recording videos of the shaking inside their homes. CCTV footage from roads in the region has also captured signs of seismic activity.

Local authorities have not yet issued a formal statement explaining the cause of the tremors or providing an assessment of any associated risks. This lack of information has only fueled the residents’ anxiety, as many are left uncertain about the safety of their homes and the likelihood of future tremors.

“We are worried because these tremors have been happening for three days now,” said another resident from Marella. “We fear that this might continue, and we don’t know if there could be a bigger earthquake coming. We would appreciate it if the authorities could provide us with more information on any potential threats so that we can prepare ourselves.”

The recurring tremors have put the district on high alert, with local communities bracing for further seismic activity. Authorities are being urged to conduct a thorough assessment of the situation and issue clear guidance on how to mitigate the risks posed by the ongoing tremors.

Despite the lack of official statements from the government, there is growing pressure for authorities to address the safety concerns of the affected communities. Residents have been calling for regular updates on the situation and have requested that emergency plans be put in place in case the tremors escalate into something more severe.

As of now, there have been no reports of significant structural damage or injuries, but the psychological impact of the ongoing tremors is evident, with many residents expressing fear and uncertainty about what might come next. Local schools and businesses in the affected areas have also been disrupted, as parents and employees are hesitant to send children or work indoors due to the ongoing seismic activity.

With the situation still developing, authorities are expected to closely monitor the situation in the coming days. Seismologists have been urged to assess the region for potential risks of stronger seismic events, while local officials are working to reassure residents and provide any necessary support.
