PM Modi meets 31 world leaders during three-nation visit to Nigeria, Brazil and Guyana

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s five-day diplomatic tour across three nations has underscored India’s expanding global presence and strengthened bilateral relations with several key nations. Over the course of the trip, which took him to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana, PM Modi met with more than 30 world leaders and engaged in a flurry of high-level bilateral meetings and informal discussions.

The Prime Minister’s journey began with a strategic stop in Nigeria, where he held a crucial bilateral meeting with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. The focus of their talks was on enhancing cooperation in sectors like trade, energy, and counter-terrorism, reflecting India’s increasing involvement in African affairs.

From Nigeria, PM Modi traveled to Brazil to attend the G20 summit, where he engaged in 10 bilateral meetings with leaders from across the world. Notably, PM Modi held his first-ever meeting with five heads of state and government during this visit: Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, UK Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer, Chilean President Gabriel Boric, and Argentine President Javier Milei.

In addition to formal bilateral talks, PM Modi also had informal interactions with the leaders of Singapore, South Korea, Egypt, the United States, and Spain. These discussions were complemented by talks with heads of international organizations, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and IMF officials Kristalina Georgieva and Gita Gopinath.

The Brazilian leg of the visit was marked by PM Modi’s active participation in the G20 summit, where he played a pivotal role in driving conversations on global economic recovery, climate change, and strengthening multilateral cooperation.

The final leg of PM Modi’s trip took him to Guyana, where he held bilateral talks with leaders from across the Caribbean, including those from Dominica, the Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada, and St. Lucia. The visit to Guyana was significant in reinforcing India’s ties with the Caribbean, with both sides committing to increased collaboration in areas such as renewable energy, technology, and healthcare.

As the Prime Minister concluded his visit to Guyana, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) took to social media, saying: “A very warm & productive State visit to Guyana concludes. PM @narendramodi emplanes for New Delhi.”

The three-nation tour underscored India’s growing diplomatic footprint across continents, with PM Modi’s engagements reflecting the country’s commitment to strengthening ties with both emerging economies and established global powers. The trip further demonstrated India’s strategic role in global governance, particularly as it continues to advance its vision of an inclusive and sustainable world order.
