Kuwait City: During his ongoing two-day visit to Kuwait, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the country’s highest honour, The Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer, on Sunday. The prestigious award was presented to the Prime Minister by Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in recognition of Modi’s significant contributions towards enhancing the bilateral relations between India and Kuwait.
According to Kuwait’s state-run news agency, KUNA, the Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer is a distinguished knighthood order, traditionally bestowed upon heads of state, sovereigns, and foreign royal family members. The award symbolizes the deep and enduring friendship between Kuwait and India. Previous recipients of the honour include prominent world leaders such as former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, and the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles.
This is the 20th international honour that Prime Minister Modi has received from a foreign nation, further underscoring his global diplomatic stature and India’s growing influence on the world stage.
In his remarks following the ceremony, PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the honour and reiterated his commitment to further strengthening the India-Kuwait partnership. “I am deeply humbled by the honour. It reflects the warm ties between our two nations, which have been nurtured over many years,” Modi said.
On the second day of his visit, PM Modi held a productive meeting with Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The two leaders discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including pharmaceuticals, information technology, fintech, infrastructure development, and security. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of elevating India-Kuwait relations to a “strategic partnership,” citing shared interests and common goals in several critical sectors.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi said, “Excellent meeting with His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. We discussed cooperation in key sectors like pharmaceuticals, IT, FinTech, Infrastructure, and security. In line with the close ties between our nations, we have elevated our partnership to a strategic one, and I am optimistic that our friendship will flourish even more in the times to come.”
The bilateral relationship between India and Kuwait has strengthened in recent years, with significant collaboration in trade, investments, and cultural exchanges. Kuwait is home to a large Indian expatriate community, contributing significantly to the economic ties between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit comes at a time of increasing global focus on strengthening diplomatic ties in the Gulf region, and the conferral of the Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer highlights the mutual respect and growing partnership between India and Kuwait.
