CPM Leaders Protest at Labesu Bridge in Purnapadu, Demand Immediate Completion of Bridge Work

Purnapadu, Manyam District – Leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) staged a dramatic and unconventional protest today at the Labesu bridge in Komarada mandal, Manyam district. In a powerful demonstration of frustration, the leaders tied ropes around their necks and demanded that the long-awaited work on the bridge be resumed immediately.

“If the work is not started, hang us and throw us into the Nagavali river,” they boldly declared, drawing attention to the dire situation faced by the tribal people in the region.

The protest was staged to highlight the severe hardships faced by the tribal communities due to the unfinished bridge. The Labesu bridge is a critical infrastructure project that serves as a vital link to 45 tribal villages in the area. Its completion is crucial for improving the lives of the tribal people, who have long struggled with access to basic services and transportation due to the ongoing delay in construction.

CPM leaders expressed their anger over the unfulfilled promises of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who had assured the local communities that the bridge work would be completed soon. However, according to the protestors, no officials or contractors have visited the site in the past six months, leading to growing frustration and despair among the villagers.

The protestors accused the government of deceiving the people with false promises, noting that despite repeated assurances from the chief minister, the project remains stalled, exacerbating the difficulties of the tribal population. The leaders argued that the failure to complete the bridge work reflects a lack of commitment to the welfare of the tribal communities and their development needs.

“The government promised that the bridge work would be completed quickly, but nothing has been done so far. The people of the tribal areas are suffering, and the government is turning a blind eye to their struggles,” said one of the CPM leaders participating in the protest.

As the protest unfolded, the leaders made it clear that they would not back down until their demands were met, urging the authorities to act swiftly to resolve the issue and fulfill the promises made to the people. The protest at the Labesu bridge has drawn significant attention to the plight of the tribal communities in Manyam district and has placed renewed pressure on the state government to take immediate action.
