Kolkata, November 9, 2024 – Restoration work is currently in progress following the derailment of three coaches from the 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express near Howrah in West Bengal at approximately 5:30 AM on Saturday.
The train, a weekly special service, derailed near Nalpur, located around 40 kilometers from Kolkata. Fortunately, South Eastern Railway officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
According to railway officials, the derailment involved a parcel van and two passenger coaches. “This morning at 5:31 AM, the Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express Train derailed while transitioning from the middle line to the down line,” stated Om Prakash Charan, Chief Public Relations Officer of South Eastern Railway. “No major injuries or casualties have been reported.”
In response to the incident, accident relief and medical assistance trains from Santragachi and Kharagpur have arrived at the site. Additionally, the railway authorities have arranged ten buses to transport stranded passengers to their intended destinations.
