Shiv Sena Demands Action Against Owaisi Brothers

Mumbai : The Shiv Sena has called for swift legal action against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi, accusing them of inciting communal violence and disturbing public peace with their allegedly inflammatory speeches delivered at a recent public meeting in Solapur.

In a letter sent on Saturday to Maharashtra’s Chief Election Officer and Mumbai Police Commissioner, Shiv Sena’s social media in-charge, Rahool Kanal, claimed that the Owaisi brothers’ remarks had provoked tension between communities and hurt the religious sentiments of various groups in the state. Kanal further asserted that the speeches, which were allegedly captured in a video and widely circulated, contained incendiary content that could incite violence, endanger public order, and foster religious enmity.

Kanal’s letter highlighted that the statements made by the Owaisi brothers violated several provisions of the law, including Section 196 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with incitement to violence, and Section 61 of the Bombay Police Act, 1951, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000 related to the dissemination of inflammatory content.

“The criminal nature of these speeches is evident as they appear to deliberately provoke unrest, disrupt communal harmony, and create a divisive atmosphere in the state. Such statements pose a serious threat to public order and safety,” Kanal said in his letter.

The Shiv Sena leader has called for the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the Owaisi brothers, demanding a comprehensive investigation into the authenticity of the video and its circulation. Kanal has also urged authorities to take stern legal action to ensure that the Owaisis are held accountable for their actions, in an effort to prevent any future instances of similar behavior.

The Shiv Sena’s complaint has added a new layer to the ongoing political tensions in Maharashtra, with communal harmony being a sensitive issue in the state’s diverse social fabric. As of now, there has been no official statement from either Asaduddin or Akbaruddin Owaisi regarding the accusations.

The controversy comes at a time when political leaders across India are increasingly under scrutiny for their public remarks, with allegations of hate speech leading to calls for stricter regulation of speech and social media content.

Authorities are expected to review the complaint and take appropriate action as per the law.
