Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh – In a major blow to Naxalite forces operating in the region, 12 Maoists were killed in an intense gunfight with security forces early this morning in the Abujhmad forest area of Narayanpur district. The encounter occurred as part of a large-scale anti-Naxal operation launched by security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-affected areas.
The clash, which took place around 3 a.m., was the result of a combing operation aimed at rooting out insurgents from key strongholds in the state’s dense forested regions. Authorities confirmed that the operation, which spanned several districts including Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur, and Kondagaon, was a coordinated effort by multiple security agencies.
According to official reports, security forces, acting on intelligence inputs, encountered a group of Maoists in the Abujhmad forest. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which the forces retaliated swiftly and decisively, neutralizing 12 Maoists.
“The operation was launched with the primary objective of clearing the area of Maoist insurgents and their hideouts. Today’s encounter is a significant success in our ongoing efforts to dismantle the Naxalite network in this region,” said a senior official from Chhattisgarh Police. The official further added that the encounter took place in one of the most challenging terrains in the state, making the operation particularly difficult.
Authorities also confirmed that the anti-Naxal operation remains ongoing in the region, with security forces maintaining a heightened presence to neutralize any remaining threats. The combing operation is expected to continue in the coming days as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen security and curb Maoist activity in the state.
Chhattisgarh has long been a hotspot for Maoist insurgency, with the Abujhmad forest area being a key stronghold for Naxalite groups. The recent success of security forces is being seen as a significant step in the government’s larger efforts to regain control of regions that have been under Maoist influence for years.
The state government has lauded the efforts of the security forces while reiterating its commitment to combating Naxalism and ensuring the safety and security of the people in the affected areas. However, the Naxalite insurgency continues to pose challenges, with sporadic attacks and ambushes still a concern for authorities.
Security forces are expected to ramp up operations in the region, as they aim to further dismantle the Maoist network and ensure long-term peace and stability in Chhattisgarh.
